    Which Oil

As with my Antifreeze topic, ill be changing the Oil in the Stag, plan to do the oil and filter every 3,000 and not BL's stated 6,000.

I have a filter coming from Tony Hart as we speak, but which oil do people use?

Ie, what make and what number (10w40 part synthetic for example)

    Thanks in advance,

    Russell.

I use Duckhams Classic 20/50 as it's readily available and I change the oil and filter every 1500 miles anyway, some use Millers and some use semi synthetic.

      Hi Russell

My personal favourite is Valvoline VR1 20w/50 - it's a very strong mineral oil often used by the Yanks in racing V8s, and used by friends of mine in Stock cars here in the UK.

Very good oil, highly recommend it.

        Hi Russell,

20W50 Mineral oil is fine. Unipart is widely available, but Halfords do their own 'Classic' oil as do Millers.

No point in using synthetic - just pouring money down the drain IMHO.

I have sent you a PM regarding suppliers.

Two things to look out for, viscosity and quality. Viscosity should be 20W50, and quality is the API rating (eg API SE etc). Comma Classic is OK and fairly easy to get.

Same here...I change mine every 3000 miles which equates to every couple of months as I use the stag as my daily driver.

For a long time I used "76" like KRYTEN'S favourite it came from the American racing scene but now difficult to get, at the mo I'm happy with Millers Sport Semi-synth 20/50.DON'T be tempted into lower viscosity oils. Have you got a spin-on oil filter conversion or are you stuck with the original ? Martin.

Thank you all so much for the help here. I shall get some 20w50 then!

I use Millers Classic 20/50 but if I could not get any like Russ I would probably use Valvoline - used their oil in my various Land Rover V8s and it seemed to put up with the abuse they took quite well.

Good concensus here, easy choice for me!

                        Hi All,

I picked up my engine earlier this week after being rebuilt

The guy who did the work said if it was his engine he would use a semi synthetic 10-40 like Comma Eurolite:?

NowI don't know what to do

                        Al.

Kingpin's answer when I asked about modern spec lower viscosity oils was NO ! 20/50 sits in a pool above the valves, and is ready to go when you start up, anything thinner will drain away much more quickly, and you get a dry start. Martin.

                            Hi Martin,
                            20/50 it is then
                            Thanks, Al.

                              Hi Al

I used Castrol 10W40 Magnitec for 4000 miles but had problems with it leaking through the cam cover half moon seals.

I changed to 20W50 oil and I have no leaks and the oil pressure is 5 Psi higher than before.
