Are door mirrors worth the hastle fitting?

After some nagging by my safety concious wife, I purchased some tex door mirrors.

Just before fitting, I sat in the drivers seat and held the o/s mirror roughly in place and it does not appear to adjust far enough out to give any more visibility than if I turned my head 90 degrees.

Are there any better options or should I just count my blessing that I haven't put 2 potential new holes in my door?

    HI Phil

My advise would be to fit them then get two of these
Door Mirrors - Door Mirror Adjuster Rings YKC2961INS from LDparts they give you a lot more adjustment

For what its worth, I fitted Jag XJS electric mirrors. I use the driving mirrors far more than the rear veiw in every vehicle I drive.

If you have no holes in the doors at the moment it's worth looking at some electric xj6/xjs jag mirrors, you get a much better view with them.

I just need to sort theold mirrorholes in my doors first then i will be able to fit mine.

That sounds brilliant. Has anyone used them, and do they work?

Phil, I fitted these door mirrors with the help of my brother ( he is an excellent all round handy man, corgi registered, engineer. electronics whiz kid etc etc)after fitting these mirrors i found that they are perpetually loose, try some others mate.

If there are any suggestions as to how I can remedy the ones I got please advice, they are screwed in via a palstic grommet....Sukhi.

Hiya Zardoz, or should I call you Sean ?

If there had been an electric mirror option for the Stag I would have jumped at it, but there ain't, and the Jag ones look good,so that's the next option. Have you any detail of how you fitted / wired them and where you put the switch ? Was it difficult to alter the foot to fit the Stag's door profile ?Are the XJ40 ones the same do you know ? Grateful for any info as I think I can get a pair without too much trouble. Martin.

I fitted a pair of the standard 'Tex' mirrors and have never looked back.

I have the said mirrors fitted (see avatar), but as yet not connected. They've been on a while now but got tangled up in a house move which resulted in not having the car on my own premises for some time. Another house move and things should now progress.

The plan is to fit a mirror switch from a Rover 200/400 and I have 2 new & narrower window switches to replace the large & grubby originals. I looked at a number of different mirror switches but the one I got seems to look the part and is nicely proportioned.

By replacing the gear lever surround I intend to fit all 3 switches side by side in the window switch position with the mirror control in the centre.

I'll try to find out the connections

Just got back in from attempt 2 to fit the mirrors thinking that I'd go with the rubber washer solution but I just can't bring myself to fit them as they just don't look right to me.

Anyone tried these to mount on the quarterlight?

I reckon your brother in law drilled the wrong size holes in the doors ie too big, I have fitted the tex mirrors to two different stags now without any problem with them being loose, my current stag has the ld part rings fitted and they are now much improved giving ample adjustment to the mirror. It does exactly what it sayson the box

Sukhi I would try drilling through the grommet and bolting the mirror to the door with some suitable chrome/stainless bolts, you have nothing to lose and you can always purchase the grommets separatley

I found that by spending some time carefully positioning the mirrors on the door you will find the best position, I dont think that there was a set position for the mirrors originally as they were fitted at the dealers, just look at all the stags with them fitted and they will all be in different places.

                          Good luck guys

Hiya Dave, thanks for that. (Sean Connory was Zardoz) Did the foot fit the Stag door profile or did you have to alter it ? Any wiring detail you can come up with gets you in my will. Martin.

I fitted the smaller Tex mirrors ( TR 6 ) with convex lenses and they're perfect.

It's perhaps worth mentioning that Stags only came with a drivers side mirror, dealer fitted, a nearside mirror cannot be fitted in exactly the same place but has to be slightly further back,as the quarterlight blocks line of sight.

To Sukhi, if the holes are too big, dispose of the grommits and screw into spire nuts and washers inside the door - easy. Martin.
