Mota-Lita steering wheel fitting

I treated myself to a Leather rimmed Mota-Lita steering wheel today, when I fitted it the nut doesn't go on as far as it did with the original wheel. I can't get the boss to go on the shaft any further so I have two questions: do I need to use the washer? and do I need to use more force to get the boss on further?

Is it definately the correct fitting? Mine went on easily and I am not the most natural mechanic on this fine forum...

Definately the right fitting, went on easily enough it just doesn't seem to go as far down the shaft as the original one. It's the same one as in your avatar.

I had the same thoughts when fitting mine last year- i kept the washer, sure the nut doesn't screw on as far as it originally did, but it has been fine for the last 12 months - the boss is well on the splines which is where all the force is exerted.

Graham - where did you get your wheel from?

A friend was looking for one at the show yesterday, but they all seemed very small compared to the original stag one.

Hi Paul,

it was from Rimmers - it makes a positive difference in the feel of the car and I got it when the sale was on, so a bit of a deal as well.
