    Selling Stags

Ok we are in the market for a Stag. However I despair at the salesmanship of most dealers I have contacted so far.

1)Poorly prepared cars. i.e. with flat tyres, mud splattered paintwork, litter inside, poorly fited carpets etc.etc.

2)Complete lack of knowledge about what they are selling. e.g. over the phone.. mileage? Dunno!. Triumph LD and colour/trim codes ...What are they?

    3) Never take my details and offer to ring back with info.

    4) On viewing make blatant attempts to divert attention from what I think may be problem areas on bodywork.

Sorry irrespective of curent financial climate I expect service when I am spending this sort of money. I recently bought a (recent used) prestige car for less than twice the price of the Stags I am looking at and the service and attention I got from their main dealership was phenomenal - they also did me an excellent deal.

We have only been in this market for 3 weeks and OK I am a classic car owner already but my steep Stag learning curve is already beginning to put me on my guard.

(PS Having now tried a few - what superb cars these are to drive! Got to have one!)

You usually find the best cars with fellow enthusiasts so private sales are usually where the gems turn up Good Luck.

Yes I bought Stag77 through an SOC member. who wanted her to go to a good home!

And took me on a 25 mile test drive before my head ruled my heart...

One year later and I'm like a kid in a sweet shop.

I think a Stag is for life and not just for weekends!!!

My son bought a Stag for 12 grand from a very well respected dealer, he has had loads of pretty serious trouble with it. I bought mine privately for half that and have had only minor things to rectify, despite my milage being more than double his. The warranty offered with a 12 grand Stag was very poor, only covering labour.

If I was buying again I would keep an eye on the forum, get to know the posters and when one who was knowledgeable and particular put their car up for sale I would go for it.

                              Al
