Drag strut feedback

As in my other post again thanks for the excellent advice on changing the drag strut bushes.

The first side (drivers) piece of cake Passenger side.... given up for the night.. what a sod!



The bolt securing the drag strut to the wishbone BH607201 will not budge even though the nut is off. If I didn't know better I wouldswear it was welded in. It's been inserted upwards by someone so there's no way I can get a persuader to it from above.

Looks like I'm going to have to remove the lot including wishbone get it on the bench and drive it out. Before this do you think I should grind the head off and try and drive it out in situ?Thanks againfor previous advice

I had exactly the same problem and ended up taking the whole lot off. I thought about removing the bolt and thought better leave it alone, as it could have rusted in the wishbone. Lot of pain for little gain.

I'm quite sure i have a spare passenger side drug strut and lower arm in the garage somewhere if you want it, just in case you can't remove the bolt or damage either part

I have also had exactly this problem. I ended up taking the whole assembly off, complete with track control arm, and working in the vice. Took lots of penetrating oil and patience!!

Thats what a 'gasaxe' is great for, by the time you've carefully cut the head/ nut off, it'll drift out quite easily....it'll all be warm!

Hi David

Perhaps the seized bolt is the car's way of telling you that it would like all its front suspension overhauling.

Go on, you know you want to.

P.S. Easiest place to obtian a replacement drag strut from would be Martin of Justriumph as he is not far from you.

Hi,

As Brian has said I had to take mine off, but I had a spare so the whole assembly is still all together and may be if I want to waste a day or more I might try to seperate them, picked up a two more spares at the weekend for £5.00 at Stoneleigh

Thanks for all the offers and advice guys

I got the whole assembly off this morning and once in the vice got it dis assembled without any damage to components. New nuts andbolts and put it all back in 30 mins and then threw the offending bolt all the way down the garden. Totally agree RubceI really do want to replace everything now.
