While SWMBO is Away (Once Again!)...

If you look back to the post I made on the 23rd Sep last year - you will see that I asked for suggestions as to how I could occupy my time while my wife was away in the U.K.
Well she's off again on the 24th March, leaving me to mind the ‘store’ again for a week.
Intend to have a few solo blasts in the Stag whilst she is away, do a spot of maintenance on her, and get some quotes for some minor bodywork repairs and a respray.
The front passenger seat is empty if anyone wants to bob over and see Tenerife as viewed from inside a Stag. Weather is Hot at the moment and likely to stay that way.
Any more/fresh ideas on how I should spend the rest of my time - there were c. 29 posts with suggestions last time?

Enjoy some P n Q (apart from the glorious V8), crack open a Beer or two, get the favourite tunes on the stereo without another opinion! Give the Stag a polishing and just generally enjoy life as all is good!

Well Terry,

You are a retired bloke like me. I can only suggest you do some of the things I get up to:-

Sailing - perhaps you can go along to the local sailing club and hang around, people are always looking for crews as most yachts can't safely be sailed alone. And, you will have another place to go,(probably with the best view on the island) for a beer or two at sundown.

Get a push bike and cycle around the island, youll see much more and get fit in the process. There are plenty of places to stay there so you can do some 2 or 3 day trips. When I was on Lanzagtotty there were loads of blokes hurtling around in lycra. Women lurve Lycra, even on old blokes.

Get some watercolours and attend some classes to determine whether you have any talent. Its quite surprising what you can do when you put your mind to it. There are some really good DVD's - thisbloke's for instance http://www.stevehallartist.co.uk/he does Ted Wesson's style With island scenes in this style perhaps you can wow the tourists and start an enjoyable and profitable hobby.

Get some sticks and thwack the pill - another drinking opportunity (I do it not for the golf but its a good social thing).

Get the boots on and a detailed map and walk some of the hidden places on your island. We had a great (and sometimes hair raising) time doing that on Lanzagrotty.

and finally....

Get a piece of ground and grow some of your own veg. The Spanish equivalent of allotments? Surprise the wife with a nice cucumber!

Surely much better than being slumped by the same old pool every day.

The Canaries are famous for volcanos - how about a bit of volcanology, and then of course there is the observatory. See what you can spot through a telescope Not by the pool that is...

Thanks for all the suggestions Al. One thing I might try is attaching a camcorder to the Stag, switching it on, then setting off round some of the back roads of Tenerife.
Advice required on exactly where to strap the camcorder to. It's the wife's new camcorder so can't afford to damage it whilst she is away, and it's a small mini-disk handycam.

That would be good Terry. Make sure you get the sound on then the Stag will drown out the rumblings from the volcanos!

That's what the "T bar" is for. Either use a gorilla grip thing or cable ties and a safety string in case. You really need an external mic. if the camcorder has facilities.

Will look into it, but cant experiment until SWMBO has gone or else she would refuse to let me borrow the thing. Mind you - it's just struct me - I still have an old Sony camcorder that works (uses tapes), maybe I could permanently attach that to the Stag, but I don't think it has an external Mike socket. Can but try.

Hi Terry

Make sure when filming that the camcorder is behind the windscreen to avoid all the wind noise that cancels out the exhaust note.

Thanks Andrew, Following on this topic - as my old Camcorder is currently just gathering dust (I think it's still filed away somewhere and I can find it again) where could I permanently attach it where it would be hidden from thieving eyes. Remember my T-bar is permanently exposed so it wouldn't be a good idea to attach it there. Pehaps behind the grill somewhere (I currently have airhorns there on one side). Be a good project for me to make it a permanent installation in the Stag. I love playing with electics and taking things to pieces. Have dismantled my Laptop umpteen times, and all my Hi-Fi equipment to repair them and keep them working properly. A camcorder permanently installed in the car with a switch on the dashboard to turn it on and off sounds good to me. The Hi8 tapes my old camcorder uses are a bit old fashioned but still work and give good picture quality.
Sound reproduction I will have to think more about. I have an old Mike which I occassionally use on the Hi-Fi equipment - perhaps I could adapt this in some way for use on the Stag, but I would need some kind of sound recording equipment also if it wont hook up to the camcorder. Given me something new to think about - any further suggestions welcome. If I can rig up a system and it proves sucessful will post a link to video footage taken on the Forum now that I know how to upload to U-Tube.

when I did V8 burble i attached the mic to the rear bumper above the exhausts. Beyond 50mph the road noise was too much though.

Yes thats the one. We are trying to sort out a meeting there again with as many Stags as we can get together. 5 or 6 cars in the tunnel at once should sound great.
