    20W 50 oil dissapearing ??

Has anyone noticed the lack of 20W 50 oil on the shelves of their suppliers recently.

The only reason I went to Halfords recently was because my own source had dried up and all they had was their own brand stuff in a metal tin.

I spoke to the buyer in work who gets our lubricants who informed me that Havoline no longer make the 20W 50 due to lack of demand. You can guess what will happen next........ they will all start to follow suit and the 20W 50 that is left will soar in price.

Stock up now if you can

Morrisons sell a 20/50 oil for about £5 for 4.5ltr correct spec would you put that in a Stag. I think tesco also sell cheap oil

There is also Comma Classic 20W/50 (API SE CC) which I use. If Tescos etc still sold cheap oil with the API (quality) specification I would use it but they have dropped the API spec now, so I don't trust it any more.

I just hope that Stag owners are not tempted to cut corners on oil changes because of the cost. Fresh quality oil is the best money you can spend on your Stag

I totally agree, that's why I don't use the comma or supermarket stuff, no matter how frequently it's changed. I've just spent over a thousand pounds on machining and parts for the stag so I certainly wouldn't compromise on cheap oil.

Hiya, the better oil companies still produce quality 20/50, Millers Duckhams etc. it's worth the trouble ofhunting out the good stuffas V mad says, it's the best money you can spend on the Stag. Personally I would fight very shy of supermarket oils, and whatever you do, don't use thinner grades ! Martin.

I don't think there is anything wrong with buying oil from supermarkets, as they sometimes sell the same branded quality stuff (e.g. Duckhams) that you can buy elsewhere. What I would advise against is their unbranded or 'own brand' products which do not show the API quality rating.

as 20/50 is not used in modern cars I suppose it will slowly disappear as demand falls.

If you have trouble you can get Millers Classic on line - you have to pay p&p but it is not too bad if you get a few gallons at a time !

I still use the Unipart oil for " older engine " design. They also do a modern engine grade and a worn engine grade.

I use the Halfords stuff. It has all the appropriate API stuff on the tin. (And a pic of a Stag).

Totally agree, its cheap compared to all the associated problem sorting. Im a great believer in proventative maintenence.
