    Water Pump Damage

Just had a call from Howard Vesey who has just refurbished my water pump. Turns out the water pump bolt has been rubbing on the water pump cover, guess who fitted the water pump?

Howard recommends using hylomer even on payen head gaskets any thoughts?

I guess he's built enough engines to know!

Howard seems a really knowledgable and helpful chap. Fast turn around on my pump refurb as well.

Look at my other posts re quality of workmanship as the water pump damage is down tothe usual suspects Im afraid.

        Hi Dave

I always use a very light covering of hylomer blue on any gasket just to help it seal.

Some people use a smear of grease but never really found it to work myself.

Let me guess who did the water pump mmmmmmmm........

Ibelieve you've had issues with Wards...

I used Wellseal on my (Payen)head gaskets...it may have been unecessary but it seems to have done no harm.

            Stu

Will use hylomar as advised by Howard. Bl**dy expensive job this head replacement lark its cost me nearly £200 for the gaskets studs and bolts, never mind the cost of the heads.

Bodywork is next on the list once I get the engine running again, bit worried about the windscreen gutters as they are bad on the visible side so god knows whatthe metalslike behind them.

Hopefully they look worse than they are, re the head change is anything cheap on any car!!

My sister has an Audi A4which need new front springs and bushes again (45000 mile and had suspension arms 3 times!) cost her nearly £500 all in with the MOT:shock:

Makes a Stag suspension rebuild look cheap.

When I did my heads it came to about £600 all in (of course I made it a over a grand by the time I'd bought tubular manifolds and heat wrap etc)

Replacing the head gasket on my mum's 1.2 corsa was about the same (£600+)

These things aren't cheap! I don't want to think about the cost if you have to pay someone else to do it

Dave, have you spoken with the supplier about this? Things go wrong but its how they react that makes the difference.

The club has a stance of not recommending suppliers. I dont personally agree but can understand some of the concerns of doing so. However, the members own the club and if there are a lot "issues" with a supplier, we should be able to prevent them from advertising in the magazine, which is an implied recomendation.

Perhaps we should invite all suppliers to join the forum, with clearly identifiablemember namesand invite comment and debate around issues? Any support for this?
