    Home Made Tools

This is a post to ask what random tools,Gadgets or thin-a-me-bobs that you have come up with to get the job done.

here is one of mine - a steel bar!

This started out as a steel rectangular tube from B&Q and it now has a multitude of uses.

The first addition was a couple of hols to enable me to bolt it to the flange that attaches to the quill shaft. This enabled me to torque up the bolt with relative ease. (I used bigger bolts than shown in the pic though).

Next I cut a chunk off the end, drilled a few more holes and added some threaded bar and it became a press. This is what I used to change the UJ's in my half shaft. It feels like it is about to go bang at any moment when there is a lot of pressure on it but it has held so far:shock:.

Thirdly, it is a extension handle for my Silisons (Removing the bolt holding the viscous coupling here).

Anyone else got anything weird and wonderful they have cooked up?

    Regards

    Dave

My distributor bolt tool - made in 1982 from an old combination spanner and a length of 5/16UNF studding welded together and wrapped with tape........still going strong and still being used......

Spooky!Whilst you were posting this, Russ, I was in the garage getting my version of the same tool. An old socket welded to a section of ring spanner:

interestingly I made a distributer tool similar to that of Russ

Its buried in the depths of the tool box at the back of the garage with all the spares etc piled on top otherwise I would have taken a picture and posted it

Having said that Its the one tool I would not be without owning a stag and comes in handy when servicing.

I originally knocked mine up more for Dolomites than Stags, being I had 9 on the trot and the 3 1850s had huge Delco distributors unlike the Sprints which you could just get to with a 7/16 1/4 drive socket on a wobbly

But it sure is useful on Stags too!

I unbolted the coil and used an ordinary spanner when I adjusted my timing :P. (I don't have access to welding gear)!

This is my overdrive solenoid spanner which has been shortened and ground down on thickness so it can undo the solenoid in situ!
