Exhaust Manifold Gaskets???

Hi,

I'm in the process of of rebuilding the heads on my MK1. When I stripped the old heads and removed the exhaust manifolds there were no gaskets and none were supplied in the new head gasket set. Am I to assume that along with all the other peculiarities that go with the Stag engine that you don't need gaskets for the exhaust manifold? I only ask because all the other engines I have ever rebuilt always had gaskets - admittedly they all had cast iron heads

Ive rebuilt a few and have never used / needed any gaskets on the manifolds apart from the downpipe joint - hope this helps

the Rover V8 (P6 models, anyway) is the same - no exhaust manifold gaskets

Hi Roger,

I have just fitted tubular manifolds to my engine, and they came with exhaust gaskets.

This thread the other week "Engine first run after rebuild" mentioned about exhaust gaskets and how they made the engine sound quieter.
