    USB problem

I have just bought myself a new mini and it has a neat little USB port that enables you to copy your i-tunes on to a USB stick and have the benefits of an iPod without the attractiveness to people who like to steal such things..

I tested it with a little 1GB memory stick and works fine, so bought myself a 16GB one which no matter what I do with it, will not work on the car.

it came formatted as FAT32, I have tried re-formatting as FAT as per the 1GB stick and have tried formatting on the Mac that has the iTunes on. Its all very annoying.

    Any suggestions?

Know what you mean Bob. There is one of those on my neighbour's drive at the moment. This is a Cooper D

Have you read the manual to see if it should be able to support 16Gb disks?

I have a Cooper D before this one. Great car. Excellent mid-range accelleration and top gear laziness. Its like a V8 Mini in fact. In the first tank of petrol with the normal cooper we got about 40 miles less than the diesel and it cost about a fiver less to fill-up. We only do 6-7000 miles per year, so couldnt justify the extra cost of the dooper over the cooper!

          Off to RTM now...

Just read the manual and it doesnt contain that much information other than track detail memory capacity - 20,000 tracks accross up to 4 devices. I have 3,500 tracks and that takes about 13-14 GB so logically, it should support this sort of memory stick. Very, very frustrating as I have a 300 mile journey in it tommorow.

If you can listen to over 240 tracks (what your 1gb stick should hold) in a 300mile journey you are going too slowly

are the mp3's in folders and did the 1st stick have them in folders?

also are you sure you have copied just mp3's no movies, windows sound files?

also wonder how it would cope with CD art work?

just some guesses, it should cope with all of the above but worth a go

It was the same drag and drop from an alphabetic structure in iTunes, so I can't understand it.

have you tried just one folder just to see if it reads it?

Graham, this is a known problem and is caused by the incorrect formatting of the drive by Mac OS X. You will need a PC (or Mac running parallels software) to do a correct FAT32 format.

The native FAT32 on the Mac will not work.

Enjoy your mini - they are great cars!

Sold my BMW Mini Cooper a couple of years ago when I got a company car. Sometimes/often wish I had kept the Mini and sold the Stag. The Mini was a fun car to drive and totally reliable. I like the new estate version but Im not keen on the convertible.
