Quarter light rubber project- Dead end unfortunately

From the title you can see that sadly my attempts, or rather my friends attempts at re-manufacturing these items as not been successful. The exchange rate with China is highly unfavourable at present so it's just not financially viable right now, it's a pity I didn't look into it a year ago! My friend thinks that the Chinese might well devalue next year so it might be possible to pick then.. in the meantime I'm going to hand back to the SOCTFL.

Sorry everyone, nothing ventured nothing gained eh?:?

Thanks for trying Kevin. Disappointing after the work you put in, but at least you know that its not a runner at this time.

Just read this Kevin, nice try mate, do they still have the patterns in case the exchange rate improves?

Thanks everyone for the support. I believe it would be possible to pick up where we left off if conditions allow.

A Cad model of the quarter light rubber is ongoing.

Recent progress to about 3/4 complete.

Its a tricky component to model, but the handed part takes about 3 seconds.

A quotation / some quotations for a batch will be sought when it / they are complete.

For now, its a 'watch this space'

                        Hi Kevin & Jbuckl

I have today spoken to a manufacture of rubber seals and they say they can produce the quarter light seal if we send them a cad file or the original rubbers as a sample.

They specialise in small batch rubber seals for the classic market and both the tooling and the seals would be manufactured in the UK

Let me know if you want to proceed or not?

                          Hey Stuart,

Can you ask them if they can manufacture front/rear hard top seals and the soft top seals above the doors in a sponge section rubber rather than the too hard monofilament rubbish?

If so, perhaps we can get one of the major suppliers, or SOCTFL, involved.

                          Dave.

                            Kevin & everyone,

Well I've got some good news! On Friday evening, your National Committee approved a grant to SOCTFL for £2k to purchase tooling to make quarter light rubbers (both sides), the first of which we hope will be on display at National Day. The estimated cost for a pair will be in the region of £80. A warning from our great sage, Tony Hart; these seals are difficult to fit, as the originals were prone to splitting - take care if you choose to fit them yourself. Watch the magazine for further details soon.

                            Cheers,

                            Dave

Yes I have asked and they think they can but need to see a seal in the flesh so may take the Stag for them to have a look.
