I like the idea of fitting a header tank to reduce the loss of coolant and ensure the rad is always full. I know there have been articles but can't recall which tank is best fit. I found a Montego that looks ok as can swap pressure cap but similar to other headers it has 2 or more pipes coming from it, whereas I only want one,I guess it could be blanked.Any views/ideas please?

I'm told the tank from a late TR7 willdo the jobif located up near the wiper motor. Presumably you'd need to splice the 'to radiator' hose into the radiator top hose and connect the 'to thermostat' hose to the radiator/expansion bottle hose?

For the ultimate in header tanks take a look at this:http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2843...46475909kouyuQ- sadly a one-off and not commercially available.

PS MJ what's the gauge for?It looks like it's in the fuel line .Very tidy engine bay BTW.

I am also interested in converting to a "header tank" set up.
Where can Ibuy the T piece required for connecting into the top radiator hose?
Thanks.

You can get anadaptor made up to your own specification from here: http://www.nfauto.co.uk/cut_tubes.htm
Also, if you download their PDF catalogue, you'll see ready made 32 & 38mm T adaptorswith a 15mm take-off on page 61.

Stagdad wrote:Yes its a fuel pressure gauge. Okay a bit 'bling' these days but I fitted the Holley & fuel gauge over 12 years before 'bling'! It is handy though incase of any problems to check if you have fuel flow, but to be completely honest the Holley has caused me zero problems in all that time....soon to be replaced however with my own designed EFI inlet manifold with 8 throttle bodies.....:shock:PS MJ what's the gauge for?It looks like it's in the fuel line .Very tidy engine bay BTW.

Is this a record braking "quote in a quote" attempt?

Thanks for replies. I looked at a TR7 header tank at a Stag supplier - while it would no doubt work it looked ermm well ugly, like something from a 1930's Morris, surely there must be better out there? The supplier put me off fitting, their opinion the system works well as it is, sucking fluid back into radiator on cooling. However my view is that if you have any coolant leak (and I've never found a dry V) then the level will slowly go down in the radiator and this will at least guarantee a top up.
I'll have a look around National day.
