The HIF range of SU's has mixture adjustment via a screw through the side of the float bowl body, very easy to adjust. Screw in to richen the mixture and out to weaken. Unlike Stromberg's you adjust the main jet not the needle.

How in the world did you manage to fit those SU HIF carbs to the air filter?

I had to make up a spacer piece to fit in between the HIF44 and the stag elbow, the main problem is that the HIF44 have 2x bolt fixing @80mm centers and the elbows have a 3x bolt fixing. The 3rd or top bolt on the elbows is not needed for the HIF44 but the 2 remaining bolts are at 72mm centers. There are 2 options here you can re drill and tap the HIF44 to take the original 5/16ths UNC bolts or you can re drill and tap to 6mm and make up new bolts. The spacer that I used ended up being approx 9mm thick and was made from some black plastic that I had.

If you are going down this route then I suggest thatyou mount the carbs on the engine then mount the air filter and elbows andadjust the elbows to get them to line up as best as possible to the carbs.the elbows might line up with the carbs or they might not depending upon the thickness of your spacer, mine were approx 3mm out so I had to make the spacer so that it blended the carb to the elbow. There is no need for any other air supply to the HIF carbs from this mounting face unlike the stromberg that needs vent holes, you will also need to blank off the vent system that connects to the air filter at the elbows and on the air filter.
