They should be legal if they have the 'E' mark, but considering the number of people who run 'old-style' number plated on post-August '73 Stags and get away with it I doubt anyone will pull you up.
For info, I decided to give them a try recently. Don't bother with the ones that have extra LEDs around the base as they do not fit far enough intoStag rear light reflectors to make any difference.
You will probably find the reflective surface of the rear lights is peeling. This can be rubbed down and resprayed with 'chrome' paint, which improves the lights quite a bit.
As for indicators. These will work if you only replace the rears. This leaves enough resitance through the front indicator bulbs and side repeaters for the flasher unit to work. If replacing front and rear indicator bulbs with LEDsyou will need one of the resistance units.
I haven't yet decided whether to keep them. The effect from the rear is of a bright spot in the centre of the lens, whereas the standard bulbs light up the whole lens.
Cheapest place for the LED bulbs, if you decide to go for them, is eBay - or I might have a few for sale soon if I decide to revert to the original bulbs.
