Driving in France - Rear Seatbelts

Hi All,

I am taking my Stag over to France at the end of May. I know the general stuff about warning triangles Hi-Viz vests etc. However, I don't have rear seat belts fitted (yet). What is the law over there regarding rear passengers and old cars, anyone know?

The wearing of seatbelts ( ceinture de sécurité) is compulsory for both front- and rear-seat passengers (unless belts aren’t fitted; front belts are mandatory on cars registered after January 1965 and rear seatbelts on cars registered after October 1978). Even passengers can be fined for not wearing a seatbelt. If you have an accident and weren’t wearing a seatbelt, your insurance company can refuse to pay a claim for personal injury.

Looks like the rules are pretty nuch the same as the UK then.

I am planning on fitting rear seatbelts anyway, I have them sitting here ready, but I have spent so much time under my Stag recently that I want to drive it for a change and 'hopefully' not have to tinker with it too much for a while. Having said that, I have a unknown water leak to sort out, if the k-seal I added this evening doesn't give me a reprieve:?.

I'm not sure which is braver, driving to France with an unknown water leak or driving to France with rear passengers with no seatbelts?!:shock:
