Diff Extension Removal

Summer approaches and the job that i really need to get around to before putting the car back on the road in May is the bad leak on the diff front seal. I bought an extension last year which I've strengthened, fitted a new bearing and managed to find abrand new quill shaft at Stoneleigh last month!

Has anyone managed to remove the nose extension piecewithout removing the exhausts, susprnsion arms etc? It looks like it should be possible, but there always seems to be hidden pitfalls with a job like this.

Any experiences/advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Mark

You have to remove the rear pipes and drop the suspension arms as the diff nose comes up and out!

Sorry mate there's not short cut especially as the seal is in the diff nose so the pipes have to come off to get the diff out safely.

Before you undo anything check the subframe exhaust brackets are sound if not order some before you do the job!

You can do it without dropping the suspension arms. I changed my diff and the front extension section without undoing the suspension arms last month. Wheels were on ramps. Removed one exhaust section ( the one that goes across the car at the rear), undid the drive shafts from the diff and undid the diff from the nose housing. Lowered the diff and removed it.

Undid the 4 nose housing to suspension arm bolts and removed it upwards. There was enough free play in the arms to allow removal this way. New housing slotted in from above also.
