    Wheel nuts?

    Hi all
I was given a set of new standard alloy wheels in anthracite grey instead of black, which i think will look great. However the supplied wheel nuts are black not sure how they will look, Rimmers want £70 for stainless nuts which would look better but "£70"!!!!!!!!!!
Any ideas ? I was wondering if the standard alloy nuts are coated/painted maybe i could clean them so then have polished alloy nuts ? Any thoughts?
God knows where this thread may go. . . . . over to you lot. . . god help me

The alloy nuts do tend to strip threads easily, I believe chrome plated steel nuts are available. The R.O.M says 70lb ft for alloy nuts-brave man if you try.

Chromed wheel nuts are regularly on Ebay @ £30 a set, I have alloy ones and bought them off another ex-SOC member. 1 did strip and I bought a steel/chromed replacement from Stoneleigh for couple of quid!

To me they look better than black.

        Hi Bob,

Are you sure about the torque? According to me the ROM says 80 lbf for steel wheels and 100 lbf for Alloys. I have snapped a couple of studs attempting to get to 100 so I settle for 80, or 90 if I am feeling brave!

        Regards

I bought a set of black nuts from 'you know who'. They were showing signs of rust after less than 12 months.

Are those anthracite wheels for an MGB? I notice the MGOC have them in anthracite for 77.25 quid each. I believe that they're machined slightly differently at the back? but I assume they'd fit?

One of the Worcs.members has the anthracite wheels fitted to her Stag, I keep eyeing them with envy so I would think that yours will fit.

P.S. go for stainless nuts, mine have been on for four years and come up nicely just by washing the car. Martin.

There were much cheaper ones at the national day than £70....
                      I think it was Robsport @ £45

I got some stainless steel wheel nuts off ebay at a good price, also remember that if you use locking wheel nuts you only need to buy 12 rather than a full set of 16 - cuts the cost by 25%
