        Hi,

Forget Halfords it very expensive and I'm not even sure they sell the correct grade. I checked my local Halfords (Ashford, Kent) this lunch time and it was £6.49 for 1 litre. I got 5 litres of the correct ATF -33F for £15.00. The motor factors is only 10 minutes from Junction 10 of the M20 in Kent. If you were driving over to get your bits. I can PM you directions if you wish. It is worth checking that any particular factors stock the correct grade as it is getting harder toobtain. The other factors that I use - PartCo told me that Unipart only supply it in 0.5litre bottles at £3.42 a go:shock:. Please don't get palmed off with any other grade of ATF - for example Dexron II or Dexron III or Ford Mercon. These have Friction Modifiers and the BW35 box will suffer from premature wear of the brake bands if you use it. I'm sure this will ellicit comments from other forum members but I have just spent the last couple of weeks looking into this and I am confident that BW35 gearboxes from the early 1970's need ATF -33F or equivalent eg. Castrol TQF. Also don't forget to get 10lts, enough to refil the box , cooler and torque convertor asnd a little spare for top ups.

        Hope this helps.

You've probably got a Wilco's near you too Adrian, they do BW friendly ATF.

Thanks for the reply guys. I was advised by Peter from LD Parts to buy Unipart GUL205 and managed to locate 10 litres from Express Factors in Oxford which I will pickup on my trip. Tried to get more but this was all they had left. Seems this stuff is getting difficult to get hold off.

I am really worried about this oil thing as I dont want to mess up the gearbox with the wrong stuff and I need to buy enough to ensure I dont have problems. Was looking on the internet and found a Partco Autoparts in Oxford area I will give them a call on Monday.

Now I am not sure if I should still get the GUL205 and also what you mentioned!

Any further thoughts would be appreciated.

The gearbox I am getting is a second hand box but in very good condition. Owner only replacing it to upgrade to a BMW box. I am also wondering if I should risk fitting the existing torque converter that comes with the box or replay it with a new one.

                  Any thoughts on this issue
