Fuel leak/ fuel tank problem

I brimmed the petrol tank at the weekend and noticed a smell of fuel when I put her away. There was a leak from the fuel feed elbow at the back of the tank.



This is held in place with a brass threaded nut which screws into the tank. The rubber fuel pipe attatches to the metal elbow which goes through the nut.

The nut is tight and after undoing it There is an olive on the metal pipe below the nut . With the nut fully done up the pipe will still turn inside the nut. For an olive to seal it needs to be sandwitched between two things yet there is on one-- the nut.

PTFE is good for threads but my problem is understanding what stops the pipe sliding inside the nut, there is an olive on the underside which I suppose stops the pipe sliding up any further but nothing to stop it slidingdown slightlyand no method of sealing the slight gap between the pipe and the nut

The ROM doesn't show any threaded components in this area. Maybe a simpler solution like the one shown would suit?

Hi Darren, I understand what you mean, but it sounds as if that union has been loose and wearing itself out for quite some time, if you wrap the pipe and threads in PTFE it will probably seal, the alternative is to pull the tank and start from first principals, you may well want to do that, I would, butPTFE should give you some time. Martin.
