    car history

    Good morning everybody,

Can anybody help to trace back the history of my Stag 1971 MK1 Stag LD10250BW?

So far it carried the following registration numbers: first SFM545K, then RJI5619 and last BNT176K. I believe it has always been a white car.

    Kind regards, Dieter.

    Hi Dieter,

Hope your overheating problem is sorted now?

You can get a Heritage Certificate from Gaydon Motor Museum http://archive.heritage-motor-centre...tificates.html

which gives you some detailed history about your car.

You can also apply to the Driver Vehicle Liscensing Authority (DVLA) in Swansea for past owners, datesand areas where they lived (I think) I stand to be corrected on this.

      Hello Dieter

Al is quite right you can ask the DVLA for records of the car's previous owners. You'll receive last known address and a copy of the registration document.I've just done it and it was a really useful exercise.

You need to download and complete form V888 from here http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/v888.pdf

Complete and return to DVLA with a cheque for £5.

Once you receive the information (takes a few weeks) then it is up to you to make contact anddo your own investigating.

Hope thats useful if you need any help with what to include in a letter let me know

      David

        Hi Dieter,

Not sure but I think that RJI5619 is a Northern Ireland No. Plate so it may well have had a previous owner outside of mainland UK. It would explain the plate changes.

Hi Dave you're right... having lived in NI for a while I can confirm RJI originates in Tyrone. However it's not unusual for people to buy NI plates as personalised plates when the letters correspond with their initials

              Al,

That doesn't sound right. First of all you should have got a letter from DVLA saying that they had got your form andwere dealing with your request. From initial request to receiving the info from them took me about 5-6 weeks from memory.

                Gentlemen,

Thank you for all your infos. I wrote to the Motor Heritage Centre last month, but did notget a reply yet. Today I wrote to DVLA, too, hoping to get a reply soon.

Dave and David are presumably right when assuming that that RJI5619 awas personalized number plate for a person who did not really live in NI, but registered his car there. His family name was R***J****.

It is quite intriguing to do such a car history research. The same is true with family research. I stopped the research of my family tree, however, when I came to the conclusion that my ancestor in 1695 was a French trapper. Maybe I was afraid I might end up with a Southern-French gipsy in my genealogy, as there were rumours in my family about this sort of roots.

                Have a nice Sunday.

                Dieter.
