New Purchase - MK1 Stag with engine problems, guaranteed!

Not content with one Stag, just been to collect this one

Only 8 previous Owners, tax exempt and guranteed to have no engine or gearbox problems

I'm a bit worried about the paint finish and was thinking that I might see if a bit of 'T Cut' would bring it backif not then I think a I'll have to respray it - in WHITE of course

SWMBO say she doesn't understand why I need itNot sure I do either!

Looks better on your trailer than it did in my garage Roger !!

You will find that in addition to not having any engine or gearbox problems

I converted it to Air cooling before you brought it !!

Lets hope its an honest wreck rather, and I'm speaking from experience here, than one that's mutton dressed as lamb. That takes more timerectifying faults that are discovered at just the wrong point during a restoration stage! Good luck to you. Re the separate thread, any photo's will do, what this site needs is a photo portfolio section. How do we get one set up?

I had a similar problem for years.

Problem is you have a 4x4 and trailer, and youenjoy the pleasure of towing a Stag back from beyond (or anywhere for that matter).

Suggest you sell the Land Rover and buy something completely incapable of towing anything.

You'll be cured!

I think that the plates near the door and near the rad, with a certain official document dated 1972 or before could come in usefull

Agree 110% with PaulT - The trailer and Landy have caused me more trouble than I care to think aboutThing is I've had the Landy for over 14 years and rebuilt it and I also built the trailer so I'm quite attached to them.

For your info the engine in the Landy is the original 2.5Turbo Diesel - the unreliable one that runs hot, does a few thousand miles, cracks pistons and eventually runs on its own crankcase fumes until it self destruction - anothermarvel of British Motor design, managed to get just over 90,000 miles out of the first one before the nasty man at the MOT station said the emmisions limit for turbo diesels was 3.5 and not 35:shock:

What the hell happened to the front end? Why is it missing? Did the previous owner not know about hoists etc when they removed the engine?

Send it for razor blades. There are far better vehicles in need of some love.
