    Wiring bodges!!

    Hi All

I have been investigating some of the interesting extra wires I have on my car tonight!

First there's the circled red wire that goes from the eletronic ignition to the brake pedal switch:?why and where should it go?

Then there's this relay marked Hella that has a red wire lead past the brake servo and under carpet towards the rear of the car? Could this be for fog lights?:?

Finally I had a red wire going from the battery to the radio:shock:!!! I have removed this but where should I connect this power lead from the radio too?

        Hi stuart

re the Luminition red wire , To me it looks like the positive feed which is normally taken off the inertia switch- that is far better because if the inertia switch trips you will loose power to the fuel pump and the ignition also

No the red wire from the battery was the main power cable to the battery!! Should it be connected to the fuse board if so which one?

Take both wires off an see which one is live with the ignition on then use that one.The other one will be dead as it goes from the inertia swith to the pump.

                Cheers Steve

Just looked at the wiring diagram and it should be the white wire stu

From the dedicated switchedradio lead under the console, unless you've a modern radio andneed a perminent +ve feed as well in which case take an extra feed from the back of the fuse box

Doesn'tthis relay need another connection to work? I can see the earth connection, possibly a feed from the switch ( the black wire)and then the output feed (the thick red cable). Where's the input?

Sorry to disagree, but it is the wire from the switch to the pump you need. Then, if you have an accident and the switch trips, it cuts the ignition at the same time as the pump. If connected to the other wire, the engine could keep running until the carbs empty.

                        Hi Nick

The input positive was part of the live wire going to the radio, it had been spliced so that it went to the relay then to the radio!!

I will remove this relay as there are no fog lights fitted anymore.

                          ARRRRRGGGGGGGH!!!

I hate electrics! I just went to the car (luckily) to fetch the splash panel and found the courtesy lights on the center console on!!

I check the light switch this was off, I pressed thedoor switches each side they only turned the puddle lamps off!:?

I disconnected them and the NS puddle lamp came on so I have had to disconnect that!!:?

Surely the radio live I removed would have nothing to do with the courtesy lamps would it?

The only other wire I removed was a redundant immobiliser wiring which was only connected to an earth all other wires had been cut and taped.

Mind you I have noticed the fog light switch has some wires that go somewhere near the courtesy lamp (can not see at the moment) but this has been disconnected before I bought the car.

                            Stu

I've had similar problems with my interior lights but giving a constant drain on the battery

Turned out to be the door switches, someone had replaced the original live type switches with the modern earth type door switches andthen bodged the wiring to get some of the lights to work, once replaced with some good used switches and rewired as per wiring diagram all interior lights worked fine

Yourproblem might not be this but worth checking

not sure how much of the immobiliser wiring you have removed but my one has a connection to the drivers door switch to trigger it when you get in - maybe something to do with it?
