    Dip /flash stalk

    Hi

    Can any one tell me if the dip/ flash stalk can be serviced ?.I can get full beam when pushed forward but when pulled back for pass the lights take ages to come on and every thing else takes a drop in current.

    I don't think there is much you can do with the switch apart from making sure the contacts are clean. You can check to see if any cable connections are loose, but these are riveted so it would probably be a struggle to retighten them.



    Bear in mind the Stag doesn't have relays in the lighting system so you have the full current going through the switch. It sounds like the switch and/or the wiring isgoing to overheat.



    I had a similar problem some time ago and the switch literally went into meltdown.

      I notice that Tony Hart sells a headlight kit with relays proberbly because of the extra current the upgraded bulbs pull.I think i might go that route as one of my sealed units has blown anyway.

        I definitely think that headlight relays make so much sense, especially when uprating the output.

        But a word of caution, I bought a replay kit from a trusted Stag seller (not HRS) but it left the dip on at the same time as full beam. Aside from the unnecessary draw on current, I was concerned that with the extra heat the bulbs wouldn't last too long. A simple modification to the relay loom and replacing 2 relays with a different type soon cured that - I'm still not sure why the original design had the combined dip/full setup.

        I now have 4 dips and 4 fulls, all beam aligned, and really pleased with the headlights now !

          Shameless plug time !

          I've got a BNIB Triumph 2000 MK2 saloon dip / flash stalk which looks identical to the Stag item - key difference is that it switches off the dip when on full beam. As per the above, I went the relay mod route instead and willing to sell for half what I paid.

            Steve why not go for johns hid kits.?

            wards kits are ok but they have to be modified to work correctly otherwise 4 dip and 4 main on at same time

                I'm not quite sure on the Stag, but other Triumph's(IIRC) flash all the headlights, high and low beams, which could be the reason for the current drop.

                  The Stag seems to have different light configs in the UK. Most (if not all) other markets it has all 4 lights on when on full/main and the 2 outer on when dipped/low. I guess that's how the switch must be wired as theres not a relay.
