    Recycling

I was having one of those conversations yesterday, where you start off on one topic and before you know it you're talking about something else and you don't know how you got there!

Anyway, it turns out that in some areas councils are selling all the dust that gets swept up off the streets to developing countries (Mexico was mentioned) for recycling.

I had always imagined that it all went to landfill...actually I hadn't given it a moments thought before, but if I had I would have said landfill.

So my question to you all is: how is this viable? and why would anyone want our dust anyway?

If no-one gets it, I'll post the answer tomorrow.

its obviously a bit posh in bexhill. Bromley prides itself on spending less on services that anyone else and only pushes leaves and dust around with a blower, without bothering to pick anything up

I know its sounds a bit far fetched but I read an article a few years back that said that because of all of the cars running around with catalytic converters there were significant quantities of precious metals (platinum?) being found in the dust at the road side. This is because (supposidly) upto 70% of the core of the converter which largely consists of precious metals ends up on the road surface as it gradually breaks up during the course of its life.:shock:I guess it is now financially viable to extract it.

God I sound like an annorak

As always with anything you read on the internet - do your own research - but it seems plausible to me!
