Just a short note to say thanks once again for the advice from the forum on my gearbox issues. I successfully replaced the gearbox yesterday and all went well. Used the step by step guide from jbuckl and it worked perfectly.

    However a couple of corrections.

    1. A one hour job with a professional list I think was a little optimistic . It took the two of us the best part of 6 hours.

    2. Getting access to the two top bolts on the gearbox was only possible with the use of a 1 metre socket extension

    3. When seperating the gearbox from the bell housing, dont take the spot nearest the bell housing, I got soaked with fluid .

Still it now all worth it and I learned a lot more about my car along the way.

Thanks again for the advice everyone

There is a good topic for Graham's next magazine article. "International geabox replacement advice success"

Hope you can now enjoy your Stag in that stunning Swiss scenery

I use a short 1/2" a/f spanner, with the gearbox lowered.....stumpy ratchet might also work.

        3. When seperating the gearbox from the bell housing, dont take the spot nearest the bell housing, I got soaked with fluid . Always a messy job on your back!

        Is it fixed now?

          Yes, its working fine.
Just returned from a day out.
Cant beleive how smooth the new box is compared with the old.
Also the gear changes are much ealier than my last one which I like

          Could not stop smiling

Hello mate, I sent you a thank you mail.
I have not stopped smiliong since I reversed off the ramp.
I was amazed how bad my original box was.
The gear change on yours is super.

One problem I always had was the change into 3rd.
It was always > 50 Km / hr and this is the in town speed limit
So I always had to break the speed limit and back off to get it into 3rd.
              Those days are gone.

One happy Stag owner this week as you can prob tell!

You are right Dave, nice to get the car back into those hills and enjoy the backroads.
