    Thanks for the replies

I don't know what the stats are, but I bet over 50% of new cars have no spare wheel now. I never even think about it when I use my Lotus Elise which only has a small can of Holts tyre sealant clipped under the bonnet!

You may already have investigated this, but many newer cars have the option of run-flat tyres.... they are frequently used on New Mini's - perhaps these are available in a suitable size for you.

as mentioned before the sealants are only designed as a 50-mile (max 45-50mph) get you out of trouble measure if you have a regular puncture.

Tyre places won't repair a 'sealanted' tyre... they hate the stuff as they have to clean it off the rims as well.... a very messy job

As far as I know run flats require special rims as well to ensure that the tyre stays inplace when it deflates. Its hard enough getting normal tyres for the Stag so I would be very suprised if you could get run flats of the correct size.:?

You could go the whole hog and do a an E30 rear suspension conversion and change the front hubs - you could then use BMW wheels some of which will have the run flat option. I suspect this would kind of defeat the original intention.

If you are worried about the weight the just put a couple of gallons less fuel in at each fill up -it'll cut down the range slightly but it'll have the same weight reducing effect.

Certainly regular Stag sizes would be a problem, i thought Mike was running some mods that may include different wheel/tyres so it could be an option.... but RF's are probably not viable for most of us!

To be honest more boot space more than anything else, and as per my original post the spare has taken a large space and never been used, except once for a normal puncture that a puncture repair kit could have fixed.

On run flat tyres, even if rims could be used for them, the general opinion is that theygive pants handling!

50% of new cars have no spare tyre cos the manufacturers know that 50% of the spares in a car boot are not even inflated and it costs to fit a wheel and tyre thats redundant...and takes space....so they dont bother.

So only 25 % of us have an inflated spare.....

and less than half of those would be able to change a wheel at the side of the road....so that leaves 12.5% of drivers having a spare that is going to be useful.

If statisically, you only get a punctured tyre once every 45320 miles , why should the manufacturers fit a spare?

Still theres lies, damn lies, and statistics!

Look for a set of 'Avon Safety Wheels'...they'ed be a period option.....even bristols once had them fitted as oem:P

fit a set of Dunlop denovos if you can get them - my dads P6 Rover 3500s had them fitted to it and they were supposed to be run flats

The finances BMW Mini cooper has run flats as well
