    Close one today

    Hi All

Had a close one today at work, all staff called in to be told that from the 21 employees in the UK 8 were to be made redundant!

I am one of the 13 left so 13 is lucky sometimes.

Feel really sad tonight as 8 of my friends now have no job

Our business isn't good at the moment - one of the reasons why I've decided to hold off on the Vitesse purchase just in case I need to use the cash for other things - like mortgage payments and food.

If a reasonable amount of work doesn't come in over the next 3-4 months, we may have to wind it up, the wife will have to go out to work for someone else (assuming there is a job available at her level), and I may have to scratch a few pennies fixing cars again - at my advanced age and with a dodgy ticker! At least the CR-V could be used as a van. My problem would be I'm so out of touch with the modern car electronics it would have to be older cars.

That class one balls-up of a government has so much to answer for...... everything has gone to hell in a hand-basket........

Between the recession, the Gurkha's and our lads dying in the middle East, Brown's blown it, after years of praying for a labour Government I'm now disillusioned and bitter. I thank my lucky stars that Iwas able to takeearly retirement two years ago. My pension has just gone up by 5%, I refuse to feel guilty about it because I payed enough, and I'm still on a low income, but it's not fair. Reading what you guys have got to tolerate is a heart breaker, the rich get richer and everybody else suffers, twas ever thus, but with a labour Government it bloody well shouldn't have been. Respect ! Martin.

Been in the same boat since Feb when my contract finished. Couple of interviews but since Easter the job market has virtually dried up. Making do on DIY jobs for people and some energy surveys. On a positive note...it can't get any worse! :?

I really feel sorry for you guys searching for jobs it must be so frustrating. I'm retired so at least I have the security of a pension... but about 1/3 of my savings have disappeared and the income from the rest has collapsed to practically nothing. The shine has been temporarily taken off retirement, and since we only pass this way once with health a strength, its pretty galling. So, I am now a ruthlessAldi shopper (1/2 the price of Waitrose!), car 'enhancements' have to be tackled at minimum cost, and any holidays will be on the back of saved Air Miles and Tesco points.

One industry that is definately still booming is that of security. Cameras to spy on us and the terrorists are still multiplying. For anyone with a sales or technical bent a bit of capital and enterprise this is a good industry to get into. The worlds biggest security exhibition takes place at the NEC soon http://www.ifsec.co.uk/index.htmland it would be a good place to go armed with your best suit and some CVs. One of my pals has started a business in this industry and is overwhelmed with business opportunities, there may be openings for commision technical salesmen with a head for heights who can develop business locally.

Anyway, best of luck to all

                    Al
