Soft Top Refitting

Hi All

I am hoping to get a good secondhand soft/frame for the Stag but want to clarify something.

On page 76.61.08 it shows a modified 3/8 UNF bolt which is to be used whilts refitting the hood frame to the car, how important are these and does anyone have some I can borrow to save me getting some made?

Hi Stuart
I have had my hood frame off and refitted and never used one of these bolts .They may make the job a little easier but are not essential . I have a set off instructions for fitting new hood let me know if you wont them and I will send them

Hi All

Got my secondhand soft top and frame today was in almost as new condition bargain!

Just need to fit after Prescott.

Talking to the guy I bought it off he told me it came off a donor car he had bought to finish his car off with but did not need the hood so stored it, now the spooky bit the car the hood came off was a TOPAZ Stag:shock:!

Hi Stuart,

you are doing a lot to the car at the moment - how is SWMBO about all of this?

I tracked down my seat diaphragms and ended up buying a new carpet set as well! Mrs B found out when the delivery driver dropped them todayat a house at the bottom of the hill I live on and a neighbour opened it and called around asking for her to come and collect our new carpet off-cuts . Surprisingly heavy box as well....

Just looked at you drawing and seen a spring fitted at 7.17, mineare missing. However when I bought the car car there was these 2 large springs lying inthe bottom of abox, not sure of wether they were from the stag or something else. Well now I know, thank you.

BTW I refitted mine withoutthe modified bolt, andwithoutany springs.

Those springs are there to stop your hood crashing into the hood well when you stow it.

Hi All

SWMBO wants to fit the new hood and frame (complete) before we go to Prescott.

Basically I need to remove the old Hood and then refit the new one, SWMBO reckons it will take 30-45 mins!

For those of you who have done this job can you give me an indication of how long it will take to unbolt then rebolt the new oneon?

About 1 hrs max

take rear seats and rear trim out
3 bolts each side to undo
fit new and adjust as required


I have never done it---but I watched Vmad do mine on Wednesday

Hi All

Got the S/H Hood fitted just finished! 3 hours it took and what a B******D of a job!

Looks good now though!
