    Oil from the Torque Converter

I have my new gearbox and bell housing ready to fit this the weekend.

Being a novice I have a couple of further questions.

If Iundo the bolts from the bell housing to the gearbox (and assoicated oil cooler pipes, cables etc) thenI should be able to remove the gearbox from the car. Right?

What is confusing me is I read somewhere thatit is not posssible to drain the oil from the torque converter.Does this mean that the bell housingis full of oil? I thoughtthe bell housing is just a cover for the torque converteran I mistaken.

Some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

You are correct. There is a seal between the torque converter and the gearbox.

They do not recommend you fit a new gearbox to an old torque converter for reasons of oil cross contamination.

No, if you have already drained the gearbox, then from what I remember there will only be a few drips left. All the remaining oil will be in the torque converter, which will not drain out.

From what I remember, you will end up with oil down your sleeve as quite a bit comes out. I assume the converter is normally full and when box removed drains out to halfway.

If you leave the converter attached as per the ROM - which personally I do not like to do.

Absolutely, and have no choice with the 65 but it does make the 35 a doddle if messy removable

Sorry to be pain on this issue but I have looked at the rimmer catalogue for this seal and I am a little confused as to what it is.

Can I ask if this is a rubber seal or metal.

                Anyone know the part number?

                Many thanks

BAU1034A if Rimmers diagram is accurate but the old number was BAU1034 so it could be a repro....

Is this a rubber or a metal part?
Not sure if it is on the gearbox already.

I noticied a disk figged on the shaft and it seemed to have sn orange outer rim.

Must have a look at this again tomorrow
