MOT and reversing lights on Auto Stag

Hi,



Been getting the Stag ready over the last couple of days for its MOT and noticed that the reversing lights were not working.

Quick check showed that the wires have been unplugged at the bulbs hence no lights.

On reconnecting the wires however the lights do come on when in reverse but also when in drive 1 and 2, and are only off in Park or Neutral.

Obviously this is why they wires have been unplugged.

1st question do they need to work for the MOT?

2nd question whats it likely to be and is it a dufficult job to sort?

Not an MOT requirement, so you're safe there.

The switch needs adjustment, or it's cattled.

The lights work ok, just they are on all the time when in a forward gear. Suspect that its the switch. Is it easy to get to on a BW35, where is it?

Hi Steve,

Very easy. Pull back the carpet on the passenger footwell. There is a black panel secured with 4 self-tapper screws. Behind this is the switch.

Much cheaper than the usual Stag parts suppliers . I bought one last year and it has been fine.

Knowledge is everything. Thanks so much.

Pulled carpet back released 4 srews, removed switch and gave a clean. Checked on a Multi meter that all was ok. Screwed back in and adjusted it and now have the inhibitor working correctly and the reversing lights.

How happy am I and all done in 15-20 minutes.

Feeling STUPID today.

Stag failed the MOT.

Checked everything yesterday and was sure it would pass.

FORGOT TO CHECK THE HORN.


Worse than that I dont think I have tried it since owning the car! I know plonker.


Horn not working, what a silly mistake, guy at MOT place could not find the problem so had to fail it. Guess I will be out there tomorrow having a look to find out why.

That's about as close to a pass as you can get ! Fit a Klaxon like I've done, that'll make the buggers jump ! Martin
