Hiya, anybody fancy a Snooper speed camera and laser detector for the cost of the postage? And yes, I know their illegal but I don't fancy binning it. Martin.
Could do with one, got flashed yesterday in my work van doing 48 in a 50 zone:X, so it does'nt confuse you, i was pulling a trailer in my 450 transit. Lets hope i dont get any post within 2 weeks
the gps fixed camera or accident black spot feature- as used in most sat navs is 100% legal.
The laser detector - is where we need confirmation, in theroad safety act, legislation was passed empowering a ministerial inactment to make them illegal. but as far as i was aware no minister has implemented this part of the act. unless anyone knows otherwise???
I don't think they are illegal in th UK, the most definately are in France but not over here as far as I am aware. As stated already there was talk of it but don't think it ever became law

there was the recent case where a radar detector caused a divorce.
A couple were stopped for speeding and the man driving was certain that he was not speeding because of his 'conviction proof' radar detector was telling him he was within the limit. It ended up in him having an argument with the officer who pulled him over. The policeman jokingly asked his wife if he was always this argumentative and she replied, 'no only when he has been drinking heavily...'
Basically, there are 3 types of technology which are used within speed camera detectors. One is radar detection which works by detecting the radar emanating from the camera ahead. They are legal to use in the UK, although there have been discussions in Parliament about bringing in changes to the law on radar detectors to make them illegal but this hasn’t happened as yet. It is, however illegal to use radar detectors in some European countries so if you are planning to drive abroad, it’s important to check out the specific country’s motoring laws first.
GPS speed camera detectors are also legal in both the UK and Europe because they use a database of camera locations and because this data is available to all members of the public, any new speed cameras which are installed have to be registered onto the database
Laser jammers, however, are an entirelydifferent proposition altogether and, perhaps, are partly responsible for causing confusion about the legality of speed camera detectors. They still present a ‘grey’ area when it comes to their legality as the technology within them can be used to remotely open garage doors, for example. Because there are no laws against using devices which emit infra red or laser light, as long as it doesn’t harm humans, animals or other property, they can’t be classed as illegal. However, they are often bought with the ‘intention of interfering’ with speed cameras and, as such, if you were stopped by police and openly admitted that you used the technology for this purpose, you could be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
