Alloy wheel nuts--Chamfer

Shaun ( Saxplayer) kindly offered me his spare set of stainless steel wheel nuts yesterday, but he pointed out that they don't have the chamfer of the originals (see pic) which causes some movement on the studs and damage to the wheel.

Can anyone tell me if their S/S wheel nuts are the same i.e straight or chamfered?

These are what you get from Paddocks ,Don't seem to have the chamfer you refer to but were fine on my car.

Hello Kevin,

if the diameter of the shanks is about 18.5mm this should be all right, as then there can be hardly any movement.

I've just measured my original nut and the shank is exactly 18.5mm, there does seem to be a little play until the chamfer makes contact.

AAARRRG I don't know what to do!!!!:X

( Shaun used PTFE tape on his, which may work but I'm not sure that that's what I want to do)

Hello Kevin,

What I did to centre the wheels was to use tapered nuts first until the wheel was centered. Then I replaced them one by one with the proper nuts. It worked, as my steering wheel is "quiet" at any speed.
