    LEAD ADDITIVE

    Hi
Looking to put some serious miles on the stag this year (only 150 last year) and was wondering what lead additive other members would recommend. Also where is it best to buy from?
    Thanks

The only reason i am asking is that the valve seats were recut slightly and replacement valves were fitted from paddocks but i was'nt sure if the new valves and cut seats would be okay with modern unleaded.

I bung Millers VSP Plusin mine asits an octane booster as well. Faired quite well in the Practical Classics testsa few years back.

I wouldn't have thought you would be able to get valve seats that weren't suitable for unleaded these days:?

I had my heads skimmed and new seats, valves and guides fitted about 18 months ago (the valves and guides came from Paddocks). No problems yet, but I'm not sure how many miles you would get on unleaded before trouble started if they weren't right. 10, 20,000 perhaps?

valve seat regression is the problem, however with the head being alloy and requiring inserts that is not a problem, and the valves were in the course of production were changed to those as supplied in the TR7/8 destined to be sold mainly in the US whereunleaded was the norm. So the chances that your car is fitted with the correct valves is high and even if not, the likleyhood that they will be damaged is not certain, personally I have run my car on unleaded or many years, certainly over 20(only one garage in Leeds supplied it when I started ) I just put it in and ran it some cars require retuning slightly, mine did not.

The upshot of this ramble is that lead addative is not reqd, put it in if it makes you feel better and I would reccommend Millers, however I dont feel it is necessary, and just in case you were thinking my car is a bit preciousand treated with kid gloves, at the last Runswick Bay Triumph weekend a TR owner commented to me that he had never heard such a wonderful noise asmy Stag at 5000 rpm.

                My reply?

                5500 rpm!

Thanks for all the replies guys - greatly appreciated.
Looks like another 250 miles on the clock for running-in, oil and filter change, then I want to hear that engine sing at 5000rpm, roll on summer!
                  Cheers Glen

Had my engine rebuilt 5 years and 20,000 miles ago never put anything except unleaded in.

And I thought unleaded would be a poor lubricant and an inadequate substitute for 20W/50...... I stand (or in this event sit), corrected.

However, his internals (engine that is) are spotlessly clean...
