Hi, I' about to spend a small fortune on a body restoration for my Mk1 and wondered if anyone has used the Rimmers repair kit which includes front wings, rear wing repair panels, sills, door skins, front/rear valance, door skinsetc?
Stuart, Thanks - a better price and better fit - I'll give them a call! I've been quoted £7k - £8k for a fully body restoration (excluding the repair kit), any idea if that's near the going rate?
For that kind of money would you not be better off simply re-shelling the car? Buy an abandoned resto project off e-bay or such like and use your current car as a donor. Thats what I am doing.
I would not spend any money on body parts that are not SOCTFL unless I could not avoid it, they were developed because the panels supplied by the likes of rimmers were of such poor quality, and they are simply a pleasure to use and fit. The people at SOCTFL put an incredible ammount of time and effort into getting panels that are actually correct with accuracy not profit as their primary motive. and I would encourage everybody to use them.
SOCTFL is in my opinion the jewel in the crown of the SOC and is the envy of many other clubs we do not hear enough about them or the work they do and we should

Standard stag thrashed and enjoyed, Nissan Murano ( very underrated, very thirsty, very fast)

Not a rant mate, a nice piece of observation ! Martin.
Ive mentioned this before but I bought two rain gutter panels that were not SOCTFL from Rimmers.
Well Ive thrown them away because they just do not fit and are nothing like the original panels. The folded edge was also very wavy and would have looked awful when fitted.I have now bought some of the more expensive SOCTFL panels which Rimmers do not stock and they are far better and look to be identical (minus the rust) to what I already have fitted, so worth the extra expense in my opinion. Also need to question if a small panel like this does not fit what will the larger panels be like.
