    Towing with a Stag.

Hi all, I've been asked by a Northants member to pick the forum's collective brain, this chap tows a caravan with his Stag, and is a bit alarmed at the amount of rear camber this induces. Does anybody know of a spring assist or levelling system he can fit to reduce or eliminatethe camber change please ?He's been towing for decades and has a pretty goodknowledge of loadings etc. Martin.

There was a company that made a bladder that you put inside the coils of the rear springs, and you could inflate as required to give the springs an air boost - can't think of the name off the top of my head but will give it some thought

Ive got rear shock absorbers that I can adjust by pumping up with a compressor or foot pump. These help to compensate for the load put on the rear suspension by the trailer/caravan and can be easily let down again after towing. As a matter of interest what weight of caravan/trailer does he tow.

      Cheers

Been here before, I raised this last year with same answers but unfortunately no success as couldn't find any company out there to assist, if someone does I'd be interested.

That said at Stoneleigh there was a company showing an antirollbar that picked up on the traimling arm shock absorber mount, they moved the shock inside the spring. If I recall there were mods thatwere applied to the springs, or maybe they just put gas adjusters inside, see if I've info @home.

I also spotted some assisters in local caravan shop, they're just plastic spacers on spring. I guess this would raise the unladen height tho.

I towed for several years and used a pair of spax springs with external assist springs on them ( I think they were for a TR7) I have not seen the like for many years but they were very effective, several members of the local club "borrowed" them and they have made several trips overseas, not however with me! They are now in my garage like me "resting"

So all in all a totally useless reply being no use to anybody this is definately what the club isall about

            Hi Paul

            Those spring assisters work.

Coil Spring Assisters are necessary because most standard car springs are designed for comfort of the passengers and are not strong enough for towing and heavy weights carried in the boot

Grayston Coil Spring Assisters and Raisers are manufactured in a hard rubber compound and can be fitted
