Yes, they are the same. The Davies Craig was the only one I knew about until another one was mentioned in a post recently. My plan was to locate it in the bottom hose at the front of the engine, well clear of the exhaust. The probelm with this is that the alternator is in the way, and so I was planning to put the altermator on the other side, higher up (where the aircon pump would go).

The plan (if it goes ahead) is to boost the existing pump and thermostat system to provide a more stable temperature control , for very hot days, slow traffic running, and after stopping.

hi, in this months stag mag in the problem page, they talk about another type of pump which sounds reaaly good,it runs off the spear v in thepullie, take a look and let us know

Thank you for pointing out the item in the current mag. I had not had a chance to look through it before your post. I have given some thought to the options of using an additional mechanical or electrical pump, and I have come up with the following:

Advantages of Triumph 2000 add on pump

      1. Uses low cost, readily available, Triumph 2000 water pump (could use 2nd hand)

      2. Drawings exist for the special parts required (assuming letter writer will provide them)

      3. Proven reliability (I had several 2000s and a 2500 years agoand no pump problems)

      Advantages of electric pump

      1. Provides full pump performance at slow speeds (e.g. in heavy traffic)

      2. Provides run-on after switch off to handle heat soak

      3. Can be mounted in a better position (low down in bottom hose)

      4. Switches off when not needed (no load on engine)

This is a difficult one. I think overall that I prefer the electric pump as I feel its advantages are greater, but I am tempted by the lower cost and proven reliability of the mechanical pump. The electric pump option would be much easier to fit if it could be mounted on the nearside (like the add-on mechanical pump). I am not sure why the mechanical pump is OK on the nearside (and therefore high up) but not the electric pump. I will ask Davies Craig (or a dealer) to comment and let you know their answer.

        Hi all,

Looking at the spec on the Davies Craig EWP80 electric pump (via MAW Solutions) it states that the motor life is 2000hrs continuous at 80degrees, doesn't seem a lot. Maybe I'll stick to the electric fan, I spoke to a young lady on a stall at the Goodwood Revival last weekend who was selling electric fans, she said that sucking was more effective than blowing !!! there you go straight from the horses mouth.

Hi Bob - wonder what its life is at 100 deg! Perhaps need to treat as lifed item like cam belt.

I'd still think a blower as well asa sucker can only improve airflow through rad.

              Hi Kevin

What else would she be talking about? she said she was very experienced.

2000 hours is not too bad. At 40 mph this is 80,000 miles. Not so different from the mechanical pump.

Sorry forgot to add that the electric pump does not run all the time. It only runs when the water temperature is 5 degrees above the thermostat temperature. This would not occur on slow speed driving or days when the outside temperature is low (most days n the UK).
