Recon 65 auto box

Hi everyone,

In April I bought a nice 73 mkll but with a crap Rover lump in it. I have since bought a doner T reg rust heap Stag with an original engine in good running order with a view to stripping it down, doing the valves/chains etc. What I am unsure of is the 65 auto box and as I don't want to have all the hassle of discovering the box is US I am thinking of installing a recon/new unit.

Please could anyone recommend a good supplierfor the 65 box? Ideally I would like to install the 4 speed option but no way am I doing it myself. Any suggestions also for a firm that can do the 4 sp conversion so I can weigh up the options?

Hi Dave,

As you may have read I am planning on carrying out a 4 speed auto conversion, so I will have a 65 box for sale, it works perfectly, at least as perfectly as any other !

It all depends on the timing, not sure how long its going to take for the conversion, let me know if you are interested.

As for a company to carry out the 4 speed conversion,I understand Faversham classics do it and Monarch, but you are looking at around £2000

Thanks, yes I am interested in buying your 65. £2k for the 4 speed conversion is something I can't justify at the moment. As for timing........well first I have to finish installing my new kitchen...then finish off my boat which I'll be selling...so realistically we're looking into september but as I have to pull out the relacement engine and strip it down plus loads of other jobs on my L reg I am in no hurry.

A soon asyour 65 is available I'll pop along the coast for it. You are welcome to email me privately so we can talk £££s.

ok Dave! I'll get back to you when the 'box is out and I've finished with it.

I'm moving house on Monday and got lot's to do there and the gearbox conversion is no small job, so if another 65 comes up you may want that one. I'll give you first refusal, in touch soon.

Sadly, no. The move has taken so long (broken chain etc.etc)I have been unable to plan many trips this year,and unable to do the major jobs on the Stag that have been building up, gearbox, brakes, bushes etc. probably going to drag on into the winter, we'll see! hopefully I'll make it National day next year:?
