    Help - Scary Discovery!!

    Hi all,

Just been taking off my rocker covers to fit new gaskets and I'm concerned about the timing sprockets. I'm not a new mechanic, but have never been iside this part of a Stag before, so forgive me if the question is stupid!

On the front of each timing chain sprocket thre is a thread, which lines up with a hole on the bracket, but these are not connected (see photo) and I need to know whether this is correct or whether I have lost a nut from each one, before I go any further.

    Thanks,

    Allan.

      Hi Allan

Don't panic you haven't lost a nut.....they are there so if you need to take a cyl head off it keeps the tension on the timing chains....very simply you push the bracket onto the bolt put a nut onto it to hold it in place whilst removing the sprocket.

        Hahaha

Ok, now I feel like a complete twat - as, not only did I get it wrong, I missed the fact that there's been a discussion on here about it already!!

Anyway, thank you very much for your speedy reply!

        Allan.

You are not alone Alan, I fitted chrome cam covers last week and forgot to place the cup washers on the bolts, the seals kept popping off until V8 Rumbler set me right.

I too thought wow some nut must have dropped off when I looked at the sprockets, I did not write to the forum about this ( too much of a coward) but did ring a friend who set my mind at ease.
