    Gearbox/clutch..?

Recently had my gearbox re-built, and all has been going really well - until today!

Whilst out, for a blast in the Cornish sunshine, I heard a loud whining sound whilst changing down from 4th to 3rd, and again 3rd to 2nd, etc (sounded like a circular saw cutting wood..??) noise disappears aftereach gear changeand car drives faultlessly apart from this sound. (I only get this sound whilst changing down?)

(I also have a 'ticking' noise which disappears, as soon as I rest my foot on the clutch.??)

Obviously, gearbox/clutch related, but would be interested in 'any expert thoughts' before I contact the guy who did the job, after the bank holiday.

    Thanks

    Jer

    Hi Jer

Sounds like the clutch release bearing to me. Although it can sound pretty bad it is very rare for the bearing to break up and so you don't need to rush to fix this but the box will need to come out again I am afraid.

      Hi Stagster,

I have had two release bearings go like this on my clutch in the last 2000 miles. Both from Rimmers. The 2nd one is still in and needs to be sorted soon in my opinion

      Where is yours from.
