Went to change my clutch master cylinder today as the old one was starting to weep. The reservoir has always seemed a little moist so got a new hose - when I went to change it I found it had rusted though - pin holes all around the outlet pipe. Why is it always on a Bank Holiday weekend?
I have now ordered one from Peter at LD but to get the car going over the weekend I thought Araldite would be a good temporary repair - WRONG! It is obviously not resistant to brake fluid - dam stuff went everywhere! - has not done the paint on the inner wing or chassis rail or my temper much good.
So if you reservoir looks a little moist it is worth checking the underneath - I assume the fluid absorbs enough water to rot through the base of it over 30 odd years - the brake fluid gets changed from time to time but I suppose no one does the clutch fluid.
