    Stags at Ripley Castle

Lots of Stags at the Classic Car show at Ripley Castle yesterday, seemed more of them than anythings else (even those chaps from Morris Garages). Mostly white it seemed!

I was up at Birstwith for a family reunion and stayed at a hotel just around the corner from Ripley as I was with the family:X I wasn't allowed to visit the show but did see a lot of cars on their way (no Triumphs though)

Definitely a lot of Triumphs there, maybe they all got there early?

I wasn't in the Stag as he's in the garage being welded for the MOT (again!).

I ended up buying a 'Koolart' (much like your avatar, Phil) mug there, they were making custom ones while-u-wait. You could even have picture of your car from the show. Didn't bother getting one with the Polo in the 'customer' car park!

I should have left my hood down so that you could get a better pic of the interior.

It was a good show and very well attended, the next one in Aug should be just as good.

Was that your green one then? Took a picture because I was trying to work out what that auto-shift was all about?!

            Any clues? :-)

It's one I fitted out of a Jagur XJ6 when I fitted the auto gearbox.

see this link ( I think this is the one )

BLIMEY! That's a lot of work! I'm impressed.

Don't think I'll be attempting that any time soon.

Besides the satisfaction of the technical challenge, would you say that it was worth the work? Mine would definitely benefit from a 4 speed, but I imagined it might be possible to achieve this with something less involved!

Yes I did enjoy the satisfaction of completing the job I set out to do, but in hindsight (wonderful thing that) I would have fitted the5 speed and not the 4. The more I use the car then the more I want more control( if that makes sense ) I do miss the ability to flick in and out of O/D and I think that the 4 speed auto gearing is not quite suited to my driving style, but in traffic the auto is very good, just that the 4 speed is not good enough for me.
can you expand on the " something less involved " Do you mean a kit, if so then Tate & Lewis do a kit fitted for approx £1800/2000

Yes, it was the kit I was thinking of. Not in the near future though, first priority is getting it through this year's MOT!

It does look like a good conversion, and I must admit liking the 'laziness' of the auto box, if only it was higher geared, cruising is a real pain.

I guess the other solution would be to change the diff.

                    Cheers.
