Rope Trick??? and Bad Head removal Photos

Could someone explain the "rope Trick" for head removal i think i have the gist of it but would like to know what "rope" is used how much and how much rotation you give the starter?

If and when you get enough movement on the head to cut off the studs i then presume you then have to very carefully drill out the remainder of the studs from the heads and drill and tap the block?

    Sounds bloody horrendous

This was a guys efforts in Tassy in Oz......

Reading the full post in thelink to the Tasmania rebuild of a stag is very interesting and highlights 2 very important points.

    1. Heads are very difficult to remove - we all know that

    2. Enthusiastic restorers who concentrate all their energies to a restoration screw up their relationships. After reading pages of hugely time consuming graft costing 000's of aussie dollars the poster recorded "today my long time partner of 9 years walked out on me"

The second point is surelythe lesson to be learned from this thread, have your pet project, never spend more than you can affordand don't letittake overyour life. The project can wait a few extra months, other people in your life may not.

      Hi Pommie

And I thought mine was bad! Glad to know that its not just my Stag which is like this, I'd be very fed up if it was. The thing I can't believe though it that the studs which have come out are shiny...

I cchickened out of doing this myself and go the local garage to do it. After much huffing and puffing I directed them to the process at http://www.team.net/www/triumph/main...ml#HeadRemoval, which worked like a dream!
