    Smoking update

Well i think my problem was the PCV valve i recently fittedcausing pressure in the crankcase which then pushed the oil out of everwhere.valve now removed and i have reverted back to just a pipe from cam cover to airbox which served me well for 2 years.Just done a fast blast along the motorway and at the moment all seems normal (which for me is 2 drips on the garage floor)

When i got back from Duxford the rear of the car had oil all over it and the underside was dripping every where ,checked the oil and it was off the dipstick (never uses oil normaly).

So hopefully i'm back on for Castle Coombe

    Cheers Steve

      Hi Steve,

I have a stange oil leak. On a front to back slope, it puts a good few drips down. On the level none. Any ideas?

I couldn't get on with the PCV valve that came with my adapter plate, so I've done away with it too.

You did fit it the right way round?

I had the same problem. The Holley does not suck as well as a pair of Strombergs.

Yep sure did , incidently i had it from the camcover to the large vacuum port on the carb to start with so as to save any oil going into the airboxbut i just couldn't get the idle down enough so imovedit to a pipe between the camcover and the airbox which has caused the pressure build up,so now i've just got rid as igot very little oil in the air box anyway without it.I'm hoping that Tims oil leak problem is also caused by this as it started at the power challenge which was just after he fitted the weber ,seems too much of a coincidence to me,so fingers crossed.

hi steve, so that new pcv i told you i bought the other day is a non starter:?there must be a way to include it in the system to make benefits, the yanks use them and some one on the forum has done what i was thinking and balanced the ventilation on both covers with a pcv.one reason i want to persue this is to cure the longer cranking needed from hot to start and reduce oil fog at filter which is handled very efficiently at the moment by a catch tank.my cold starts are good two or three pumps no choke and up she fires.glad its not terminal for you be good if it will last until winter then you can install a BBC 427

                  good luck steve..........................

And I though I was the only on to have problems with PCV valve drove about five miles and had oil blowing out of the cam covers to much pressure in sump only had to blow gently through PCV valve so I know it worked just no suited to Stag engines.

For me the benefits of fitting a PCV (if there are any) aren't worth the apparent R & D it is going to need to get it right considering my simple setup works well ,in fact why did i fit it in the first place? probably because everyone else was and it seemed like a good idea at the time, you live and learn. At least i found out before i wrecked the engine.

                      Cheers Steve

That's exactly what I found, i.e connecting the cam breather to the large port on the front of the Weber resulted in a high idle speed that would not come down, so I connected the breather to the airbox instead. I was getting oil in the Vee but I'm pretty sure now that it was caused by a poorly fitting breather pipe, I've changed that now and it seems OK (early days) there is still some residual oil in the Vee but I don't think there's new oil going in there any more.
