washer name??? radiator top hose bolt seal

    Hi,

I've just topped my coolant up on the top of the radiator, whatever seal that was there has completely perished and fallen off (it looked a bit like plumbers tape as well!)

What type of seal or rubber washer should go round the top hose, radiator top up bolt? i really could do with getting one tomorrow, would Halfords or a similar outlet have one on a sunday?

    Many thanks,

    Alastair

PS - does anyone know if Halfords would do a banjo bolt seal for the fuel pump, i normally avoid Halfords so i cant remember what sort of parts they have now!

It's a standard plumbing size for the radiator filler cap so you'll probably do better in B+Q or similar for that.

Think its a 1/2" BSP so you would be better of going to a plumbers merchant or DIY shop.

I am having a problem with this washer too.

Tried a number of rubber washers but the problem is that they just sqeeze out when the top plug is tightened and dont seal correctly.

I think some form of flat hard plumming washing is required.

Would be interested to know what you end up buying

Mine has the rubber washer but I must admit I don't do the plug up really tight - just enough to compress the rubber and provide a seal. Are you tightening it too much by any chance?

Alastair, it should be a white nylon plastic seal and you can get them from LDPart online.

              Cheers

                  Alastair,

Have you tried running without a washer there? I ran my last Stag for years without one. It wasn't until I saw them on the ldparts web site that I realised that there was a washer for there. Rather than wait for one, try it without. If the surfaces are smooth you may not need one.

I've put a temporary leather washer in which was the only one available from Wickes in the right size. That should keep me going tomorrow until i order one on Monday. I'd rather not risk running without one as i am taking the Stag to France on Saturday, it seems silly to take a risk for when a part is only a few pounds and 2 minutes to fit.

                    Thanks for all your help.
