    Speedo problem

Returning from a thoroughly enjoyableNational Day in my MK1 when looked down at the speedo to see I was doing 100mph down the A1, now I know the old girl can still move, but then looked the rev counter and saw 3,000 revs (more like 65/70).

Speedo is reading a constant 20-30mph over and even sitting in the garage tonight indicates 25mph.

Any ideas guys, me thinks faulty speedo rather than cable or drive, but as always value your input.

    Cheers

    Hi Andy

I had a problem with my rev counter a while back and was quoted about £50 plus postagefor a service.I got one of ebay as a temp (£10)while i sent mine off but when i got the ebay one it worked well so haven't bothered with my one.

Might be worth getting this as a temp fix if you have a Mk 2

      Hi, Andy.

The speedo needle is driven by a magnetic disc which spins with the cable. Therefore if the needle is showing 25mph whilst stationary then something other than the cable is stuck, or the return spring is broken. I would try and find another speedo or get yours repaired.

May seem like a daft question but having clicked on your link it has made me wonder where the trip reset should be located on a MKII Stag? I can't ever recall seeing a reset button anywhere in mine and thought perhaps they didn't have one.

        Regards,

        Barry.

          Barry,

most MK 2's have a trip reset button under the dash, just below the fuel gauge, but on the very last few (last year i think) the trip reset button is on the face of the speedo.

            Thanks Ian,

I found mine but it was underneath the temperature guage and not the fuel guage. There is a hole under the dash beneath each guage and so I guess it can be fitted either side.

            Thanks for the tip.

            Regards,

            Barry
