Windscreen rubber seal

Hi All,

Been trying to fit my new windscreen rubber seal to the chrome this afternoon

I have read all the previous posts and threads on this job, but cannot get my rubber to fit the chrome, just seems to be too small.

The rubber came from Paddocks, so have emailed them to make sure they did not have a bad batch. Any ideas anyone?

I fitted the windscreen myself but like a nitwit fitted it withoutthe chrome. I then tried to fit the chrome but off course it wouldn't. I had to leavethe beast with a professional who then fitted it in no time. When I asked him how he did it, he said "just said fit the Chrome 1st". He wouldn't enlighten me further.

Maybe its a case of fitting half the chrome to the rubber then attaching it to the windscreen, then try the other half of the chrome to the other half of the rubber then attaching that to the screen. Maybe as the rubber stretches then it allows all the chrome to then go on.

Hi Steve,

It is new from Paddocks, but bought last year with some other stuff. The bag it came in had a label with C O H Baines Ltd on it and windscreen rubber ES86 Triumph Stag typeSo looks like it should be the one.

I have emailed Paddocks to double check and make sure there weren't any dodgy ones around.

I was following the instructions on an old thread that Les M gave, but still not working.

It does look a bit small doesn't it. The difference in circumference is 6 inches:X

Good thinking Batman!

This is the rubber fitted to the screen as far as I can get it, to get it all the way on would take some immense stretching.

Is it suppose to be that tight? I don't wan't to force it and then break something if it is not right.

It looks like the rubber is upside down in the last pic, or have you stretched it that much. Have the top 2 corners fitted OK on the top of the screen or did you have to stretch the rubber.Do the corners seamto line up OK with the screen? From memory I think that new rubbers are a bit of a tight fit, because thats why I have had too use "gaffer tape" in the centre top and bottom of the screen to hold the rubber in place. If you fit the rubber to the screen then try fitting the chrome trim you may find it easier.

You haven't got a rear hardtop window seal by mistake?

I see from your first pic that you had the chrome trim centre sections taped together you need to leave these loose only use tape to help hold the trim on the rubber I think your best bet is to fit the rubber to the screen then fit the trim but do not fitthe centre top and bottom fully, once the screen is fitted to the car its easy to fit these straight sections of the trim.

You've got more chance of fitting a condom on an oak tree. It's far too small Al, have you got the original to compare it with?. Get Paddocks to change it.

I will see what Paddocks have to say tomorrow.

Les - it is the right way round and would doubt if it would stretch enough to reach that corner.

Bob - the original was 6 inches longer in circumference.
