Kevin, I guess you are brave and lucky, it is such a big purchase I just couldn't /wouldn't dare buy a car then go to view it, perhaps I should be more daring?!

"what followed on this forum was pathetic and puerile as I'm sure we all agree". Like I said I lost sympathy after reading the silly posts.

Now - any answers on my missing plate on the nearside door shut, should I try to get a replacement?!

I assume that onceyour vehicle detailshave been enteredon the new MOT database, then it won't be an issue in future tests. However, the anorak in me would get a replacement just so it looks right.

Whether or not you get a replacement depends on how you value 'originality'. If no one has picked up that you don't have one, then it may not be worth it. If you do want one, they are available. Tony Hart sells them (Ebay item: 220144665555)

I bought one a few years ago, as the one on my car is badly scratched, but I have yet to find anyone withsuitable font stamps to put the numbers on with.

See my note above, depends on the details the MOT'r enters. In my case last year he couldn't find the car on the database and had to manually enter info, selecting the wrong chassis nr in the process. The follow up discussion with DVLA wasn't difficult as they took my word oncorrection from commission plate but they're within their rights to subsequently examine the car.

A few years ago I had such a case when I bought a car with different number plates on back and front - a number had been transposed (strange I didn't notice the tack weld across the roof at same time....). Not wishing to pay for a new mot I tried to get it corrected and subsequently had to present the car to a kcal taxation office for inspection. Luckily all was ok.....
