    Tie rod lever (steering)

    Hi all,

I'm after a little advice. Following the successful recon of the rear end, I've moved onto the front. I removedthe hubs, struts, drag link and radius arm in one go anddismantled them on the bench.

    1) When I took the verticle link & caliper apart, there were no shims behind the large spacer. Should there be? Or are they only there in the case of large tollerances?

    2) After re-painting the vertical link and steering lever, I loosly assembled the steering lever and there isa large gap between the lever and the lower vertical link body, when the lever is hard against the centre. (piccy attached). I don't remember this gap being there when I took it apart. Have I done something wrong or am I worrying about nothing? Should there be a shim in there, or should I just tighten the lower bolt fully before the nut in the centre?

Any help would or advice would be gratefully received.

    Many thanks

    James

Doh! Just remembered the disc shield goes there!!

Still curious about whether or not there should be shims under the large spacer though!

    Cheers

I thought the shims were "As Required" so I assume you could have none fitted, or a DPO has lost them. Be interested to know whatthe measuring procedure isto determinewhat shims if anyare needed

I think the workshop manual and parts book may be wrong here.

There are two shimsI am aware of on the front suspension and they go on the bottom two 3/8in bolts on the vertical link to adjust the front wheel camber. These are the smaller of the four bolts which hold the strut to the vertical link.

The large spacer (133572) goes on the 7/16in bolt which goes on thefront top position on the vertical link. The parts book shows shims (140686 and 140687 associated with it).

I think these are probably the camber shims I refer to above.

I could be wrong, butthats the way my car is put together!
