    Engine weight?

    Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy an engine stand but I am unsure of the weight of a Stag engine (without the box, I know, you have to take the box off anyway, but some might know the weight of the engine and box together which is not much help). I have a cd of the various technical publications but can't find the info anywhere. Can anyone help?

    Many thanks

    Dave.

My spare engine is currently attached to a stand like this:

apparently you want to avoid ones like this:

as the 2 legged stands makes the whole thing much more stable and manoverable.

I'll second that, Machine Mart also do one similar, but the two 'legs' do make it more difficult to transfer the engine to the stand with an engine crane.Worth it for the extrastrength and stability.

I made two plates that bolt to the back of the engine, with eight studs into the block, then four more substantial bolts with nutsto connect to the stand.

Thanks for all the advice chaps. On digging around the commonly quoted weight is 446lbs, haven't a clue what it in kilos, couldn't give a toss for them since they scrapped the 2lb bag of sugar.

The 2 legged stand does seem to give greater stability and although many seem to get by with using the standard holes in the block or adaptor plate I think I'll beef it up a bit as Mark did.

Sorry to hear about Chris's Astra, a rear engined Astra powered by a Stag engine, that is an achievement!!!!

            Thanks again

Company car with the added extra weight in the back option (factory fitted) so no trouble, carrying a dusbin full of bricklaying mortar the following week did not help either.

NB front engined astra + stag block in rear = terminal understeer and increased stopping distance!

              P.S I now have a van!
